The local sheriff's office announced on Monday that Gene Hackman's late wife, Betsy Arakawa, was alive at least one day longer than originally suspected, according to phone records.

The Santa Fe County sheriff's office spokesperson, Denise Womack Avilal confirmed that Arakawa made at least three calls to a private medical clinic, Cloudberry, on the morning of Feb. 12, as NBC news reported.

The state medical investigator estimated initially that Arakawa died a day before, on Feb. 11, which was seven days prior to Hackman's alleged time of death, which was assessed to be Feb. 18.

The pair were discovered, dead, along with one of their three dogs, on Feb 26. At the time, Arkawa was 65, and Hackman was 95.

From Officials

In a statement, Avila said that the sheriff's office had not previously identified when Arakawa died, but it did say that February 11 was the last time it knew she was alive.

She also said that the office had said before that the investigation into the couple's deaths was still going on and that they would look at the cellphone records as soon as they were received.

A medical investigator's office spokesman, Chris Ramirez, said that the cellphone records were not yet in the hands of the investigators when Chief Medical Examiner Heather Jarrell gave a public estimate of Arakawa's death time on March 7.

"The information was based on what was available at that time," he said by email. "As with all death investigations, the NM OMI and law enforcement will continue to work closely together to determine the facts necessary to close the case."

Cause of Death

The medical investigator's office identified Arakawa's death cause as rare hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, which can induce shortness of breath, tiredness, and death through contact with rodents or their urine and droppings.

This month, the medical investigator's office reported that Hackman died from hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, with Alzheimer's disease contributing.

Reporters claimed that Cloudberry's chairman, Dr. Josiah Child, said that the late actor's wife called the clinic on Feb. 23. The doctor reportedly told the publication that she canceled a visit for pulmonary distress because she was sick.

The doctor told reporters that she contacted the clinic about a heart scan for Hackman as well.

Judicial Actions

A New Mexico district court temporarily banned the state and local authorities from sharing images of the recently passed couple, their residence, or any dead animals on the property in an order released on Monday.

A representative of the late couple's estate issued a petition to Judge Matthew J. Wilson on the barred items, and the case will be heard again on March 31.
