Clinton returns to political spotlight with Biden campaign role

America said "no" twice, but Hillary Clinton just can't take no for an answer. The perennial presidential loser is returning to politics full-time in 2024 as an official Joe Biden campaign surrogate.

Clinton and Biden haven't always gotten along - Barack Obama notoriously passed Biden over to support Clinton's doomed 2016 campaign - but circumstances have brought the party's elites together.

The crisis? Donald Trump is edging out Biden in the polls, despite four blatantly political indictments.

She's baaaack!

Democrats are desperate to convince voters that Trump is a would-be dictator who poses an existential threat to democracy, but the electorate is unhappy with Biden's poor leadership, particularly on the economy.

Biden's coalition is also showing signs of fraying, with the war in Israel energizing young progressives against the administration.

To combat that development, Clinton plugged a piece in the Atlantic last month supporting Biden's stance on the conflict.

Clinton also hosted a fundraiser at her home in Washington where she raised $1 million for Biden.

While her shocking defeat to Donald Trump destroyed her personal dreams forever, Clinton has remained a vocal participant in national politics.

As Biden struggles with the rigors of his job and campaign, he has delegated more responsibility to surrogates - creating an opening for Clinton to jump back in the arena.

“We are very eager to get our surrogates engaged,” a person close to Biden said.

Dems in chaos

It's a sign of just how starved of inspiration the party is that Democrats are turning to "crooked Hillary" to push the weak and exhausted Biden - who most Democratic voters don't even like - past the finish line.

Who's it going to be next, John Kerry? Al Gore?

It's hard to imagine a less likeable surrogate than Clinton, who has only gotten more shrill and bitter since her crushing loss in 2016.

In any case, the party is backed into a corner and has few options left. That's why they're trying to imprison Trump - and asking has-beens like Clinton to step into the breach.

“At the end of the day, Biden needs all the help that he can get,” a Democratic strategist said, speaking on condition of anonymity to talk openly about Biden’s prospects. “What he needs is both the spirit and the actual reality of unity.”
