The push to extend President Donald Trump's tax cuts from his first term are in full swing in Congress, and within the ranks of organizations that back the idea of extending them.

One of those groups is Club for Growth, which favors extending the tax cuts, and its working overtime to convince Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) to go along with the idea to help it pass the upper chamber, reports indicated.

Fetterman is one of the few Democrats, if not the only one, who has leaned toward Trump's side on several hot topic issues, and many believe he can be convinced to do the same for Trump's tax cuts.

The organization released a new ad this week showering Fetterman with praise, with the hopes of getting his vote when the time comes for the Senate to help extend the tax cuts.

What's going on?

Club for Growth held nothing back in its ad, praising Fetterman for not being afraid to "stand out," presumably referencing other issues that Fetterman has broken with his party on.

"John Fetterman is not afraid to stand out … because he's standing up for every working family in PA,” the ad about Fetterman said. “Everyone in Pennsylvania will benefit if Fetterman helps extend and expand Trump's tax cuts, stopping the largest tax increase in history."

It added, "Tell him: Keep fighting for PA, extend and expand Trump's tax cuts, John."

Reports noted:

The group’s direct appeal for Fetterman to get behind Trump’s broader agenda, which includes extending 2017-era tax cuts and other policies on the economy, energy, and border security, is unlikely to work. Fetterman voted last month against a budget blueprint for the so-called reconciliation bill, which Trump and Republicans have dubbed the “big, beautiful bill.”

Despite the organization's efforts, many believe it's unlikely to convince Fetterman to go that way, given his past statements.

What did he say?

Last month, Fetterman voiced his opposition to the Republican-led reconciliation bill.

"I will never support any bill that strips Medicaid, Medicare, or SNAP benefits from Americans to bankroll tax cuts for billionaires," Fetterman said at the time.

He added, “Pennsylvania deserves better than this and I’ll keep fighting for a government that serves the people, not special interests."

Hopefully, he can be convinced to change his mind, as Republicans will need some support from the other side to make it happen.
