Comey says 'former beauty queen' prosecutor proves case against him is political

Former FBI Director James Comey said in a new court filing that the "former beauty queen" prosecutor bringing the case against him is proof that his indictment is politically motivated, according to the New York Post.

“No career prosecutor was willing to bring the case; the President nevertheless publicly demanded prosecution; and at the last minute, he installed a White House aide with no prosecutorial experience to deliver the desired result,” Comey’s lawyers wrote in a dismissal request.

The filing referred to interim US Attorney of the Eastern District of Virginia Lindsey Halligan, who was appointed in September after her predecessor resigned over the indictment of New York Attorney General Letitia James.

Halligan was formerly a beauty queen in Colorado and practiced law as an insurance attorney in Florida before joining President Donald Trump's personal legal team in 2021.

Not much experience

Halligan's federal experience is limited to three cases, but she served as a White House senior associate staff secretary before being appointed as a federal prosecutor.

It does seem difficult to justify the move by Trump, other than to say that he tends to reward his friends and that she expressed a willingness to prosecute people like James and Comey.

But as far as the law goes, it doesn't really matter whether she has experience or not; she's technically qualified for the position and she's going forward with the indictment.

It's also kind of rich when Trump critics like Comey start crying about politically motivated prosecutions, considering what they did to Trump over the last several years.

What goes around, comes around, and the leftist and anti-Trumper tactics they have used are now biting them in the butt.

Pandora's Box

Comey was indicted on charges that he lied to Congress during testimony in 2020, when he said that he didn't authorize any damaging leaks to the media about Trump just before the election in 2016.

Specifically, he faces one count of making a false statement to Congress and one count of obstruction of justice.

If the deep state and Democrats hadn't opened Pandora's Box as far as politically motivated investigations and prosecutions, I would probably say that Comey shouldn't be prosecuted.

But since they got the ball rolling on politically motivated prosecutions, Comey and James and a bunch of others deserve everything they get.

And once Trump's tit for tat has been satisfied, just maybe cooler heads can sit down and try to put everything back in the box. But I'm not holding my breath on that.
