Every great once in a while, Congress comes together on certain issues that have nothing to do with politics, and this week was evidence of that, as a rare, unanimous House of Representatives vote was announced.

According to Fox News, the House voted unanimously to memorialize a young girl, 12, who was slain last year by two illegal immigrants.

Jocelyn Nungaray of Texas, who was 12 at the time of her killing, will have a wildlife refuge named after her in Texas to honor her life, providing some level of comfort to a family that dealt with the unthinkable pain of the circumstances that led to her tragic murder.

The bill to rename the refuge after the slain young girl was originated in the Senate by Texas Republican Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz.

What's going on?

In a 372-0 vote in the House, with 59 members not voting for other reasons, the lower chamber voted to rename the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge in Texas as the "Jocelyn Nungaray National Wildlife Refuge" to honor her.

Fox News noted:

It's not uncommon for members of Congress to miss uncontroversial votes if they have other matters at hand. In this case, the bill to remember Nungaray was virtually guaranteed to overwhelmingly pass.

The wildlife refuge was unofficially renamed back in April to honor Nungaray, but was formalized with the vote this week.

Nungaray was reportedly a strong supporter of wildlife, and renaming such a refuge is nothing short of a great honor to recognize her passion for protecting animals in her home state.

The last step in the voting process will required a signature from President Donald Trump to codify the change. He's expected to sign the bill without issue.

Social media reacts

Users across social media reacted to the vote.

"A powerful tribute. justice with meaning, not just memory," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "I'm glad her name is recognized. She should have still been here with us. I'm glad Jocelyn is smiling in the heavens."

Many others on social media noted that this happened under former President Joe Biden and was primarily due to his lax border policies.
