Several Republican senators have expressed support for making Fox News host and decorated veteran Pete Hegseth secretary of Defense.

Should Hegseth be confirmed, one conservative group says he needs a green light to remove left-wing activists from the military.

Letter identifies 20 generals and other senior officers

According to Fox News, that case was recently made by an organization known as the American Accountability Foundation (AAF).

AAF sent a letter to Hegseth which was published by the New York Post last week, and it names 20 generals and other senior officers that the group believes are political ideologues.

AAF President Thomas Jones began the letter by writing, "The woke takeover of the military is a major threat to our national security."

"As global tensions rise, with Iran on the march, Russia at war, and China in midst of a massive military buildup, we cannot afford to have a military distracted and demoralized by leftist ideology," he continued.

Jones went on to declare that "[t]hose who were responsible for these policies being instituted in the first place must be dismissed."

Air Force general criticized "whiteness" on social media

Among those singled out was Air Force Col. Benjamin R. Jonsson, who wrote an op-ed piece four years ago in which he harangued his white colleagues.

"As white colonels, you and I are the biggest barriers to change if we do not personally address racial injustice in our Air Force," Jonsson asserted.

Another example is Air Force Maj. Gen. Elizabeth Arledge, who made social media posts railing against "whiteness" while also praising her "shero" Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Also in AAF's crosshairs is Air Force Brig. Gen. Corey Simmons, who helped oversee the creation of a DEI task force at Vance Air Force Base.

Hegseth previously called for the firing of "woke" generals

Fox News noted that AAF reiterated its message in a social media post, writing, "Many don't want to hear this, but it's the truth: DEI in the military is going to get people killed. STOP IT NOW BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE."

For his part, Hegseth expressed similar sentiments during a podcast appearance last month, stating that any "general, admiral, whatever that was involved in any of the DEI woke sh--t has got to go."
