Wisconsin Republicans were dealt a blow in August when Democrats cemented their control over the state Supreme Court via the swearing in of liberal Justice Susan Crawford.

However, the GOP was rocked again this past week after conservative Justice Rebecca Bradley revealed that she will not seek reelection.

Bradley will not be "a minority member of the court"

According to Wisconsin Public Radio, Bradly made that announcement in a statement she provided to WiscPolitics on Friday.

Bradly, who was first elected to the Supreme Court in 2016, explained that her "fight for liberty" will not be "as a minority member of the Court."

“For years I have warned that under the control of judicial activists, the court will make itself more powerful than the legislature, more powerful than the governor," she stated.

Democratic candidate pledges to be "on the side of the people"

"That warning went unheeded, and Wisconsin has seen only the beginning of what is an alarming shift from thoughtful, principled judicial service toward bitter partisanship, personal attacks, and political gamesmanship that have no place in court," Bradley continued.

"The conservative movement needs to take stock of its failures, identify the problem, and fix it," the justice went on to declare.

Wisconsin Public Radio public radio noted that with Bradley seeking another term, former Democratic lawmaker and current Court of Appeals Judge Chris Taylor of Madison has no opponent in the Supreme Court race.

Ashley Franz serves as Madison's campaign manager, and she indicated that Madison is ready to face whomever Republicans put forward.

"No matter who Republicans and right-wing special interests recruit to run against her, Wisconsinites will once again have a clear choice between a candidate who believes in stripping rights away and Judge Taylor, who has always been on the side of the people," she was quoted as saying.

Republican Appeals Court Judge may run for Bradley's seat

Meanwhile, Waukesha-based Appeals Court Judge Maria Lazar reacted to Bradley's decision by suggesting that he may pursue her seat.

"I am seriously considering a run for the State Supreme Court and I am grateful to those that have already reached out to me," Lazar wrote in a Facebook post on Friday.

The judge also hailed Bradley for her "deep intellect"' as well as her "courage to stand as one branch against all of the others."
