Convict who had sentence commuted by Trump arrested multiple times in recent weeks: Report

As all presidents do, President Donald Trump pardoned and commuted his fair share of people upon leaving office in 2021. Unfortunately, there was a bad apple in the bunch.

According to the New York Post, convicted drug dealer Jonathan Braun, 41, blew his chances at freedom after being arrested multiple times in the past month by authorities, breaking the terms of his commutation that was signed by Trump.

Trump had commuted Braun's 10-year sentence "for orchestrating a marijuana distribution ring" on his last day in office for his first term in the White House.

Braun even had his picture taken with the president at one of his golf courses after his sentence was commuted.

What's going on?

Braun was arrested on a variety of different charges, including "injuring a 3-year-old child, groping his live-in nanny, and other violent episodes," the Post reported.

The Post noted:

But Braun, who took a picture with Trump at one of his Florida golf courses in 2022, has been nabbed several times since, including for allegedly punching a man during a Shabbat dinner Saturday night at his Nassau County home, court papers say.

He then shoved the man’s three-year-old to the ground, “causing a red mark on his back and substantial pain,” according to a criminal complaint.

Braun's family reportedly has ties to President Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and many believe that's the sole reason why his sentence was commuted.

Judge Kiyo A. Matsumoto said he was concerned about Braun's "erratic" behavior, deciding to hold Braun without bail for the time being.

"I am concerned about the nature of the offenses. People are getting hurt," the judge said, adding, "My concern is there are repeated instances of violence and showing lack of stability."

Bailed then arrested

Braun was able to post bail and get out of jail for the state charges, but he was arrested Friday morning on federal charges by U.S. Marshals.

The Post added:

Wearing a beige hooded sweatshirt and not wearing handcuffs, Braun griped during Friday’s hearing about his court-appointed lawyer, flipped off reporters sitting in the gallery, and claimed he wanted to represent himself.

"I could have gone to law school myself but I chose not to," he said during the hearing, adding: "I’m very intelligent."

Braun had served less than three years of his original 10-year sentence, according to court filings.
