'Corrupt machine': Kari Lake says she will not run for office again in Arizona
Twice-failed candidate Kari Lake said she will not run for office again in Arizona, blaming a "corrupt machine" for her losses.
Lake ran for governor in 2022 and senator in 2024, losing both times to the Democrat candidate.
The former news broadcaster saluted "the movement" in Arizona that got her the nomination for both offices, but said she was "prevented" from gaining office.
"Hellbent on making sure I never hold office"
“We know the movement that we have in Arizona, and I will never take that for granted,” she wrote on X. “But there is a corrupt machine here that is hellbent on making sure I never hold office.”
“So, I won’t put my family (and myself) through the torture of running again,” Lake continued.
Leaked audio of a January conversation between Lake and Arizona Republican Chair Jim DeWit appeared to back Lake's claims.
In the conversation, DeWit offered Lake a lucrative job in the private sector to step away from the Senate race.
“There are very powerful people that want to keep you out,” DeWit told Lake in the recording. “But they’re willing to put their money where their mouth is in a big way.”
New venture
DeWit claimed that the audio was "selectively edited," but resigned after the leak became public.
Lake has taken a position as the director of the state-run media organization, Voice of America.
“I will go to Washington, D.C., return @VOANews to its glory days, and help President Trump Make America Great Again,” she wrote of her new venture on X.
Trump's appointment of Lake to the VOA position has raised eyebrows because of her previous claims that the 2022 governor's race was "stolen" from her, and her support for Trump's similar claims about the 2020 presidential election.
Republicans in charge
Despite Lake's loss, the Senate will have the biggest Republican majority it has had in more than a decade on January 3.
With a Republican as president and Republican majorities in both houses of Congress, the next two years should be very productive for the country in getting back to policies that actually work and are beneficial to the country.
If Reublicans fail to do this, their majority will not last long.
