A cousin of Prince Harry and Prince William has been found dead aged 20 in an apparent suicide.

Rosie Roche died from a "traumatic head injury" at her family home in Wiltshire County, England, on July 14.

The college student was reportedly packing for a trip with friends, and a gun was found near her lifeless body.

Royal family tragedy

An inquest into her death was held Monday at Wiltshire and Swindon coroner’s court.

According to coroner Grant Davies, there are "no suspicious circumstances or third-party involvement" in the death. She was found by her mother and sister.

The royal family has yet to comment on the shocking death, just the latest in a long line of tragedies to haunt the monarchy.

Rosie was the granddaughter of Princess Diana's uncle, Edmund Roche, 5th Baron Fermoy, who shot himself in the head aged 45 after a long bout of depression.

His sister was Frances Shand Kydd, the mother of Princess Diana, who died at 36 in a car crash when her sons Prince Harry and Prince William were boys.

English student

Rosie Roche was a first-year student in English literature at Durham University, one of England's oldest and most prestigious universities. She previously attended St Mary’s Calne, a girls’ independent boarding and day school in Wiltshire, according to her LinkedIn.

"University College staff and students are extremely saddened by the tragic death of Rosie Roche," said Wendy Powers, principal of Durham's University College.

"Rosie was a first year student studying for an English Literature degree. Rosie had settled into the University and College beautifully and had lots of friends."

"She was loved for her creativity, energy, her love of books, poetry and travel among many other talents. She will be sorely missed."

"Our thoughts and condolences are with Rosie's family and friends, and we are offering support to those affected at this extremely difficult time."

"Darling daughter"

An obituary for Roche was published in The Yorkshire Post.

"Roche, Rosie Jeanne Burke. Died on Monday 14th July 2025. Darling daughter of Hugh and Pippa, incredible sister to Archie and Agatha, Granddaughter to Derek and Rae Long," the obituary read.

"Private family funeral. A memorial service will be held at a later date," it added.

Roche's death comes more than a year after the suicide of Thomas Kingston, the husband of Lady Gabriella Windsor, King Charles III's second cousin. Kingston had been using anti-depressants when he killed himself with a shotgun at his parents' home in the Cotswolds.
