Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg is back in the spotlight, but this time for prosecuting an actual criminal who was sentenced to a lengthy prison term for his unspeakable acts against children.

According to the New York Post, Jonathan Luna, 34, was sentenced to 12 years in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing a now-teenaged boy since 2017, when the child was in second grade.

Bragg made headlines in the case by announcing last week that he fears there might be additional young victims, given Luna's extensive employment history working in various positions that put him in direct contact with multiple young children.

The Manhattan DA urged potential victims and parents to come forth with any information about possible incidents involving Luna.

Worked with many children

Luna has worked in many roles as a counselor within schools, summer camps and the Boy Scouts.

The Post detailed his work history, which has many, including Bragg, afraid that he's abused other children:

Luna was around kids for years at his jobs, which included a stint as an assistant scoutmaster and cubmaster for the Boy Scout Federation of Greater New York from 2007 to 2012

He also worked as a counselor at the Boy Scout Keowa Summer Camp in Sullivan County in 2015; an afterschool counselor at the McBurney YMCA Afterschool Program at PS 41 in Greenwich Village from 2013 to 2016; and a counselor at Camp Wayne for Boys in Wayne County, Pennsylvania, from 2016 to 2017.

"Based on the charged individual’s employment history working with children in afterschool programs and summer camps, we are deeply concerned that there may be additional victims," a statement from Bragg read.

He added: "If your child may have had contact with this individual, I urge you to contact my Office’s Child Abuse Unit by calling (212) 335-4308."

Boy Scouts of America revealed that there were no complaints filed against Luna during his work with the organization, but added that Luna has been banned from participating with the organization "in any capacity."

Consequences

Many across social media were relieved that such a monster has been taken off the streets. Aside from the prison sentence, Luna will also be closely watched and subjected to many rules upon his release.

He will be required to register as a sex offender, and the Post noted that he'll be under "13 years of post-release supervision" after he gets out of prison.

The mother of the child who was abused, who trusted Luna as a babysitter for many years, justifiably scolded Luna for his actions, which she says still gives her child nightmares.

"Up until then, we considered you part of the family," the understandably tearful mom said. "I cared for you more like a nephew than a babysitter."
