Dan Bongino named FBI deputy director
At least one holdover from the Obama administration has made it into the Trump Department of Justice, in the form of former Secret Service Agent Dan Bongino.
In a post published on Monday, FBI Director Kash Patel, who was sworn in on Friday, said he was "proud" to support the appointment of Dan Bongino as the next Deputy Director of the FBI, as the Washington Examiner reported.
"His leadership, integrity, and deep commitment to justice make him the ideal choice to help lead the FBI at this critical time. He’s a cops cop," Patel said of Bongino.
"Welcome aboard, Dan. The country needs strong leadership, and I know you will serve with honor and dedication."
Bongino's Background
A successful conservative commentator, Bongino is the anchor of "The Dan Bongino Show." He has previously served as a Secret Service agent and in the New York City Police Department.
"I've spent my life in public service, beginning with the NYPD and continuing through my time as a Secret Service agent, working under both Republican and Democrat administrations. I've witnessed firsthand the dedication and sacrifice of the men and women in these agencies who serve with integrity and honor," he stated, according to a post on X.
"There are dedicated people in the FBI who take their oath to the constitution seriously. They deserve leadership that will back them up, protect their mission, and ensure they can do their jobs," Bongino noted.
The announcement was made by President Donald Trump on Truth Social on Sunday night.
More Opinions on the Appointment
"Dan Bongino, a man of incredible love and passion for our Country, has just been named the next DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF THE FBI, by the man who will be the best ever Director, Kash Patel," Trump said in a post on social media.
The newly appointed director "is now one of the most successful Podcasters in the Country, something he is willing and prepared to give up in order to serve," Trump pointed out.
In a post on X, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth congratulated Bongino, stating that "Patel-Bongino atop the FBI is pure [fire]."
From Congress
Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD), the Chair of the House Freedom Caucus, also congratulated Bongino, stating that he "will restore confidence, accountability, and leadership to the FBI."
Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski and Maine Senator Susan Collins were the lone Republicans to vote against Patel's confirmation last week, even though the majority of Republicans supported the Trump nominee.
