Former Marine Daniel Penny made headlines late last year when he was acquitted on all charges stemming from the 2023 death of homeless man and career criminal Jordan Neely.

Being vindicated in court isn't all the New York resident has to celebrate, as he recently managed to land a high profile new job.

Venture capital firm: "Daniel acted with courage in a tough situation"

According to the New York Post, Penny was made a partner this week at the Silicon Valley venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz.

David Ulevitch is another partner at Andreessen Horowitz, and he broke down the decision to bring Penny on board in an internal memo which was obtained by the Free Press.

"I believe, as I know many of you do, that Daniel acted with courage in a tough situation," Ulevitch was quoted as saying of Penny.

"He was acquitted of all charges," Ulevitch pointed out. "Beyond that, it has always been our policy to evaluate the entire person and not judge them for the worst moment in their entire life."

J.D. Vance says Andreessen Horowitz's decision to hire Penny is "incredible news"

"He will learn the business of investing and he will work to support our portfolio. We believe in Daniel and are excited to have him as part of our team," the partner stressed.

Ulevitch further explained that Penny will be tasked with building ties between Andreessen Horowitz and the Department of Defense as well as public safety agencies.

Andreessen Horowitz's decision to hire Penny was met with online praise from conservatives, including Vice President J.D. Vance, who called the news "incredible."

Fox News recalled how Vance previously invited Penny to attend the Army-Navy game in December alongside President Donald Trump.

Penny seeks to have lawsuit filed by Jordan Neely's father thrown out of court

"Daniel’s a good guy, and New York’s mob district attorney tried to ruin his life for having a backbone," Fox News quoted Vance as writing in a post on X.

"I’m grateful he accepted my invitation and hope he’s able to have fun and appreciate how much his fellow citizens admire his courage," the vice president went on to add.

His new job wasn't the only reason why Penny has drawn attention, as last month he sought to have a wrongful death suit filed by Jordan Neely's father thrown out of court.
