Danish center-left prime minister sides with JD Vance on immigration
All too often in America, it's clear that those left-of-center would rather pander to the lowest common denominator instead of utilizing common sense. Luckily, that doesn't seem to be the case all over the world.
Even though socialist Danish prime minister Mette Frederiksen doesn't seem to agree on much with the Trump administration, she recently crossed the aisle to agree with America's right on one particular issue.
According to Politico, Mette Frederiksen recently said "that the Trump administration’s Vice President JD Vance was right when it comes to migration and limiting the mass arrival of foreigners."
Even though liberals in America would rather pretend as though there are zero downsides to allowing any and all immigrants into America regardless of legal status, Frederickson isn't willing to go that far.
A rare point of agreement
Frederiksen hasn't been the biggest fan of JD Vance or the rest of Trump's administration lately, and that's primarily because of Donald Trump's insistence that he will acquire Greenland.
Currently, Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark.
The friction dates all the way back to 2019 when Donald Trump first indicated that America should purchase Greenland because of its strategic importance.
Even back then, Frederiksen called the idea "absurd," a notion she still holds to this day. She indicated that Greenland belonged to its people and was not for sale.
Her dismissal apparently irritated Donald Trump, who canceled a visit to Denmark and called her response "nasty."
Ever since Trump took office again in January 2025, the issue of America purchasing Greenland has been one of the hottest topics of his conversation. Fortunately, Frederiksen understands the importance of at least some immigration regulation, and recently put aside her differences to agree with JD Vance on the subject.
Her comments
"I consider this mass migration into Europe as a threat to the daily life in Europe," Frederiksen recently said, echoing a statement made by JD Vance weeks earlier at the Munich Security Conference.
"There is nothing more urgent than mass migration," JD Vance has said. Even though Vance's statement contained nothing but common sense, the audience seemed shocked that he was willing to say it out loud.
Even though Vance was met with some fury over his comments, Frederiksen's statements seemed to convey the same message: "The message that our populations in almost all European countries have tried to send to politicians through the years: Please get in control [of] our borders and be decisive on migration."
According to Politico, Denmark is already taking great steps to curb illegal immigration:
To limit migration, Denmark has deployed a potent cocktail of policies dubbed “zero” refugees including negative advertising in source countries urging migrants not to make the trip; confiscating valuables from migrants to offset the cost of their stay; threatening rapid deportations for settled Syrians during the reign of Bashar Assad; and the controversial “No Ghetto” laws aimed at reducing the proportion of foreign-born people in Danish neighborhoods. The country also passed a law in 2021 that could allow refugees to be moved to centers in partner countries outside the EU, such as Rwanda, a proposal that the European Commission later criticized.
Despite Frederiksen being on the left, her voter base has supported her stance on immigration just like Trump fans have supported his.
