David Axelrod suggests Biden should drop out of presidential race

Fox News reported in April that President Joe Biden formally announced his intention to run for another term in office.

Yet some members of Biden's own party are beginning to doubt his chances, with one prominent Democrat even calling on the president to suspend his campaign.

Poll shows Biden losing to Trump in five of six battleground states

The Hill noted that David Axelrod once served as a senior advisor to former President Barack Obama, and this past weekend he addressed the issue in a post on the social media platform previously known as Twitter.

Specifically, Axelrod pointed to a recent poll commissioned by The New York Times and conducted by Siena College which showed former President Donald Trump beating President Joe Biden in every battleground state except Wisconsin.

Among the survey's more surprising findings is that Trump is backed by 22% of black voters in the six battleground states, a historic change if the figure proves to be accurate.

The number contrasts sharply with an in depth examination of 2020's election results by Pew Research which found that the former president was supported by just 8% of African Americans.

Axelrod: Poll raises a "legitimate concern"

"It’s very late to change horses; a lot will happen in the next year that no one can predict [and] Biden’s team says his resolve to run is firm," Axelrod wrote.

"He's defied [conventional wisdom] before but this will send tremors of doubt thru the party--not 'bed-wetting,' but legitimate concern," the former presidential advisor added.

Axelrod continued his thoughts via a pair of subsequent posts, stressing that Biden "is justly proud of his accomplishments."

Trump poses serious risk to Democrats

"Trump is a dangerous, unhinged demagogue whose brazen disdain for the rules, norms, laws and institutions or democracy should be disqualifying," he asserted.

"But the stakes of miscalculation here are too dramatic to ignore," Axelrod insisted before adding that "[o]nly [Joe Biden] can make this decision."

Axelrod concluded by saying if Biden "continues to run, he will be the nominee of the Democratic Party. What he needs to decide is whether that is wise; whether it's in HIS best interest or the country's?"

" A free people [claim] their rights, as derived from the laws of nature."
