David Hogg scolded by DNC officers after calling for primaries against Dems in deep blue states

The Democratic Party is in total disarray in the wake of former Vice President Kamala Harris' devastating loss in November, and they're not even trying to hide it anymore.

That was evidenced recently as David Hogg, a liberal activist and vice chair of the Democratic National Committee, was scolded by DNC officers for pushing primaries against Democrats in deep blue states, NBC News reported

The call for primaries comes as younger, more radical Democratic figures demand fresh, young progressive blood to line the halls of Congress while the "old guard" is pushed out and retired.

Hogg created quite the commotion within the ranks of the Democratic Party, given his vast influence across social media and high-profile DNC leadership position.

What's going on?

DNC Chair Ken Martin released a statement condemning and forbidding DNC leaders from taking sides or calling for primaries in the next election.

"Let me be unequivocal: No DNC officer should ever attempt to influence the outcome of a primary election, whether on behalf of an incumbent or a challenger," Martin said on a media call.

He added, "Voters should decide who our primary nominees are, not DNC leadership. Our role is to serve as stewards of a fair, open and trusted process, not to tilt the scales."'

NBC News noted:

As of now, however, the DNC does not have the power to remove Hogg if he refuses to stand down on funding primary challenges through a separate PAC — unless the body changes its rules, a senior DNC official told NBC News.

DNC Finance Chair Chris Korge explained that removing Hogg didn't appear to be an option at this point.

"Under the present bylaws, there is no action that can be taken against David Hogg without changing the bylaws to extend that policy of neutrality to all primaries," Korge said. "There is no codified, legal way to remove an officer for doing what David Hogg has done because it only extends to the presidential race. "

Old ghosts

Korge and other DNC leaders are clearly scared to death of Hogg pushing primaries against certain Democrats, saying it harkens back to 2016.

“It smells like 2016, when progressives said the DNC had it in the bag for Hillary Clinton," Korge said, referring to accusations that the DNC blocked Sen. Bernie Sanders' path to the White House in favor of Hillary Clinton.

"No party official, no officer of the DNC, should do anything that would result in the division that was created by the perception that existed back in 2016."

Only time will tell if Hogg backs off or continues to cause an earthquake within the party.
