An aide to Bill Clinton who was found dead at an Arkansas ranch died by suicide, the police have ruled.

59-year-old Mark Middleton, who had ties to Jeffrey Epstein, was found hanged from a tree with a gunshot wound at a ranch in Clinton's native Arkansas.

An initial report from the Daily Mail said there was no gun found at the scene, but a follow-up report clarified that police discovered a 12-gauge shotgun nearby.

Suicide ruling in Clinton aide death

Police believe the firearm, which was found 30 feet from Middleton's body, was sent flying from the recoil of the gunshot.

The police report included an apparent suicide note that Middleton sent to his bereaved wife over text, saying he found the "perfect place for a nap in the sun." Middleton signed off with an "I love you" and a heart emoji.

An initial police report obtained by the Daily Mail described the graphic scene when officers arrived at the Heifer Ranch in Perryville on May 7.

The police found a gun case and some buckshot in Middleton's car, but no gun -- and Middleton hanged from a tree with an electric cord and a gunshot to the chest.

"I could see what at first appeared to be a man sitting near a tree, as my eyes focused better, I could see a rope of some type going from the tree limb to the male," the report said.

No foul play

An additional report published in the Daily Mail from Sergeant Keenan Carter mentioned that a gun was located nearby. The report laid out a theory for how Middleton died.

The man prepared a noose for himself in case he didn't die from the gunshot, Carter said, adding he found no evidence of foul play.

Middleton's family fought the release of the case's gory details, but the judge ruled that information could be made public -- but no pictures.

At the time of his suicide, Middleton was working with his family's HVAC business in Little Rock. The Clinton White House had cut him off in 1996 after he was accused of abusing his access to impress business clients.

Epstein ties

Clinton flew on Jeffrey Epstein's "Lolita Express" jet, invited Epstein to the White House and was even memorialized in a bizarre portrait at Epstein's Manhattan mansion depicting Clinton in a blue dress.

Middleton is also said to have flown on Epstein's jet, and while working at the White House, he signed Epstein in several times.

Epstein's death at a Manhattan jail in August 2019 was ruled a suicide, but the mysterious circumstances led to enduring speculation of foul play, with some theories attributing the death to the Clintons themselves.

The 1993 suicide of Clinton staffer Vince Foster also became tabloid fodder and the basis of numerous theories.
