Defense Secretary Hegseth welcomes Elon Musk and DOGE to audit Pentagon
Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) are on a roll as far as slashing government waste at a growing number of government agencies.
The latest agency to be audited is the Pentagon and the Department of Defense, and according to Fox News, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth welcomed Musk and his team to have a look.
During his first overseas trip, Sec. Hegseth told reporters in Stuttgart, Germany that Musk and DOGE are "welcome at the Pentagon."
Hegseth was asked several questions about his thoughts on Musk's involvement at the Pentagon, as reporters wanted to know exactly what he and his team would be able to cut.
What happened?
Hegseth took questions regarding Musk and whether or not he'd be allowed to begin slashing military contracts at the Pentagon.
Hegseth responded by describing Musk as a "great patriot interested in advancing the America First agenda" who knows "Trump got 77 million votes in a mandate from the American people, and part of that is bringing actual businesslike efficiency to government."
In other words, Hegseth is completely on board with Musk having a look at potentially wasteful spending within the ranks of the U.S. military.
Musk had originally predicted that wasteful spending at the Pentagon, especially on woke programs like DEI and similar initiatives, could easily add up to "billions."
Hegseth revealed that he spoke of a "partnership" with Musk and the DOGE unit to uncover such waste at the Pentagon, which will ultimately save U.S. taxpayers potentially billions of dollars.
"As I said on social media, we welcome Doge to the Pentagon," Hegseth said. "And I hope to welcome Elon to the Pentagon very soon. And his team working in collaboration with us."
Erasing the wasteful programs
Hegseth stressed that the Defense Department has wasted untold amounts of money on initiatives that it shouldn't even be in.
"There are waste redundancies and headcounts in headquarters that need to be addressed. There's just no doubt. Look at a lot of the climate programs that have been pursued at the Defense Department," Hegseth said.
He added, "The Defense Department is not in the business of climate change, solving the global thermostat. We're in the business of deterring and winning wars. So things like that."
Only time will tell what Musk uncovers as far as waste at the Pentagon, but will undoubtedly probably be substantial.
