The sports world was rocked to hear that NFL Hall of Fame legend Deion Sanders, who set record after record when he played the game, has been diagnosed with and treated for cancer.

According to Breitbart, Sanders, and NFL legend and current Colorado Buffaloes head coach, told reporters earlier this week that he has been fighting a diagnosis of bladder cancer for the past few months.

The good news is that Sanders also revealed that he's having success in fighting the potentially deadly disease, noting that doctors have successfully removed the tumor while claiming he is now "cancer free."

The cancer was reportedly detected during an otherwise routine vascular screening.

Getting treated

Sanders revealed that his entire bladder had been removed when doctors took the tumor out of his body. He also said his sons haven't left his side.

"My sons have not left my side since," Sanders said during the press conference this week. "This wasn’t easy."

"I think I dropped 25 pounds… Dealing with the catheter… Dealing with going to the bathroom. I can’t pee like I used to; it’s totally different," he said.

Sanders also opened up about the planning that goes into preparing for a major surgery, especially when cancer is involved.

"I had to make a will," Sanders explained in the video. "That’s not easy at all, to think that you might not be there, but you want to make sure everybody’s straight."

Social media reacts

There were plenty of social media users who mocked Sanders and suggested that he's milking the moment for attention, while others genuinely wished him well and hopes he recovers.

"Deion, your strength and faith are truly inspiring. Wishing you continued health and blessings," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "That raw emotion shows what real strength looks like – a man who fought his toughest battle in private so others could focus on their dreams, then gives all glory to God when he wins. That's the kind of leader young men need to see."

Hopefully his recovery remains positive and healthy.
