Democratic Rep. Mikie Sherrill of New Jersey, who has her sights set on the governor's mansion in the upcoming election, might have just hit a major roadblock for that particular dream.

According to Newsmax, the Dem lawmaker is under fire "over major campaign contributions from a Chinese business leader with purported ties to the Chinese Communist Party."

The Washington Examiner had the scoop on the bombshell revelation, which included information on checks written for her campaign that have purported ties back to the CCP.

The report is not a good look for Sherill, who already faces a challenge in her quest to be governor of New Jersey.

What's going on?

The Examiner had all the dirt regarding the CCP-linked donations, which originated from Pin Ni, president of Wanxiang America, an arm of Chinese auto parts conglomerate Wanxiang Group.

In total, Ni sent approximately $45,000 in combined donations that benefited Sherrill's political ambitions.

Newsmax noted:

The outlet said Ni personally wrote a $30,000 check last February to One Giant Leap PAC, which backs Sherrill's gubernatorial bid, and previously contributed about $14,500 to her congressional campaign committee between 2022 and 2024.

According to the documents obtained, Ni had been listed as a member of the CCP. In fact, the documents said he was an "outstanding Communist Party member."

Not surprisingly, the companies represented by the CCP member are largely involved in the electric vehicle market, which would stand to gain from Sherrill's policies she backed as a lawmaker.

Social media reacts

Users across social media had plenty to say about the revelation of the dirty CCP donations.

"A cheater and now commie. Wonderful news for her opponent," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "Anyone tied to a foreign adversary should be prohibited from donating to candidates for elected offices in the USA - Period!"

It'll be interesting to see if she decides to return the donations. However, even if she does, it appears that the bad optics could still remain a stain in her goals to be governor, as her opponent will absolutely use it to eat her alive.
