Democrat governor vows to oppose Trump's illegal immigrant deportation plan
The 2024 election results have not even been fully tabulated, yet one Democratic governor is threatening to do everything in her power to oppose the incoming Trump-Vance administration.
The governor, according to Fox News, is Massachusetts's Maura Healey (D).
She is one of several Democratic governors to make a post-election statement vowing to fight the administration of President-Elect Donald Trump, months before the administration is set to take over.
Trump will not be sworn in until Jan. 20, 2025.
"Absolutely not"
One of the things that really seems to bother Healey is Trump's plan to remove illegal immigrants from the United States.
During a recent interview, on Wednesday, with MSNBC, Healey made it clear that her state will not be cooperating with this deportation plan.
"No. Absolutely not," she said when asked whether Massachusetts would help the Trump administration.
"So I think the key here is that, you know, every tool in the tool box has got to be used to protect our citizens, to protect our residents and protect our states and to hold the line on democracy and the rule of law as a basic principle," she added.
Healey made it clear that she plans to use litigation, regulations, and executive authority to stop Trump.
Background
Trump, following his overwhelming victory in the 2024 presidential election, has made it clear that he does in fact intend to follow through with his plan to deport illegal immigrants from the United States.
NBC News reports:
President-elect Donald Trump told NBC News on Thursday that one of his first priorities upon taking office in January would be to make the border “strong and powerful.” When questioned about his campaign promise of mass deportations, Trump said his administration would have “no choice” but to carry them out.
Trump, during the interview, made it clear that he is not against immigration in general - that he is only against illegal immigration.
He said:
We obviously have to make the border strong and powerful and, and we have to — at the same time, we want people to come into our country. And you know, I’m not somebody that says, "No, you can’t come in." We want people to come in.
When asked about the cost of deporting illegal immigrants, Trump said, "It’s not a question of a price tag. It’s not — really, we have no choice. When people have killed and murdered, when drug lords have destroyed countries, and now they’re going to go back to those countries because they’re not staying here. There is no price tag."
