Some opponents of former President Donald Trump have taken to stealing his campaign signs, with incidents occurring in New Mexico, Wisconsin, and Massachusetts.

One of the latest examples came last week when a North Carolina Democrat was hit with criminal charges.

"My worse angels got the better of me and I removed the signs"

As Breitbart reported, Moore County Democratic Party chairman and state legislative candidate Lowell Simon was arrested this past Thursday.

According to WRAL News, the 68-year-old politician admitted to taking Trump campaign signs which had been put up along Seven Lakes Drive.

"My worse angels got the better of me and I removed the signs," the Democratic official was quoted as saying in a statement one day following his arrest.

"I shouldn't have done that. I didn't do it in the stealth of night or anything. I did it when it was five o'clock in the afternoon," he continued.

"I've been telling people for years don't touch opposition signs, but I was [mad]," Simon stressed, adding that the signs he took were blocking other signs that he had put up earlier.

Simon complains that "the law should be applied equally"

The local Democratic Party chair acknowledged that "[i]f people are going to break the law, myself included, there should be consequences."

"But, the law should be applied equally. I understand that sometimes you catch the criminal and sometimes you don't, but it has to be applied equally," Simon insisted.

Meanwhile, Breitbart pointed to a Facebook post in which the Moore County Sheriff's Office provided more details concerning what had transpired.

Poll shows Trump with a narrow lead in North Carolina

"On October 10, 2024, at approximately 5:25 p.m., a sheriff’s deputy working in the West End area observed Lowell Simon removing campaign signs from the roadside along Seven Lakes Drive," the post read.

"The deputy, who was responding to an unrelated call at the time, later followed up at Simon’s residence, where the signs were found in his vehicle," it continued.

"Simon admitted to removing the signs, which were then recovered and returned to their original owner," the post explained before adding that Simon was later charged with "two counts of misdemeanor larceny of political signs."

The news for Trump wasn't all bad in North Carolina last week, as a new poll showed him narrowly leading Vice President Kamala Harris in the state.
