Democratic congressman hospitalized following medical emergency this past weekend
A member of congress had to be rushed for treatment this past weekend after he experienced a medical emergency in North Carolina.
According to the Western Journal, New Jersey Democratic Rep. Donald Norcross received treatment at the University of North Carolina Rex Hospital.
Medical problem "likely related" to lawmaker's gallbladder
"Congressman Donald Norcross was traveling over the weekend and suffered an emergency medical event likely related to his gallbladder," a statement released by the congressman's office explained.
"He was admitted to UNC Rex Hospital in North Carolina on Sunday and is in stable condition, where he is receiving exceptional medical treatment," it noted.
The statement said Norcross "is currently in good spirits and wants to thank the doctors, nurses, and support staff at UNC Rex Hospital for all their work on his behalf during his stay.
"When the Congressman is medically cleared to fly, he will be transferred back home to Cooper University Health Care in the coming days to complete his recovery," it added.
Norcross said to be "on his way to making a full recovery"
A subsequent statement put out on Tuesday indicated that the New Jersey lawmaker had been taken back to his home state.
"Last night Congressman Donald Norcross was transferred to Cooper University Health Care in Camden City. He is in intensive care and stable," it read.
Norcross was said to be "tired but glad to be back in South Jersey" and "on his way to making a full recovery" as his condition improved.
"Donald wants to thank everyone who has sent well wishes and prayers to him, his staff and family. He also wants to thank again all the medical staff at both UNC Rex and Cooper University Hospital," the statement stressed.
The New York Post noted how it remains unclear how long Norcross will be away from Capitol Hill. What's more, he isn't the only member of his party to experience serious help problems in recent weeks.
Two congressional Democrats have died in recent months
Last month saw 70-year-old Texas Democratic Rep. Sylvester Turner pass away at his home following a brief hospitalization.
That tragedy was followed eight days later by the death of 77-year-old Arizona Democratic Rep. Raul Grijalva following a battle with lung cancer.
His office recalled how "Grijalva pushed for new public parks, childcare centers, health care clinics, local businesses, and affordable housing have breathed new life into neighborhoods across Southern Arizona."
