The Daily Caller has reported that a New York Democratic congresswoman regularly met with an alleged Chinese spy.

According to the website, Rep. Grace Meng began attending events in 2016 organized by Chinese-American organizations linked to Lu Jianwang.

Lu accused of running an illegal police station

The Department of Justice (DOJ) put out a press release last month which identified Lu as being one of two individuals who were arrested for helping to run an illegal Chinese police station in the United States.

"'Harry' Lu Jianwang, 61, of the Bronx, and Chen Jinping, 59, of Manhattan, were arrested earlier this morning at their homes in New York City," it read.

"As alleged in the complaint, Lu and Chen are charged with conspiring to act as agents of the PRC [People's Republic of China] government as well as obstructing justice by destroying evidence of their communications with an MPS [Ministry of Public Security] official," the press release continued.

"The defendants worked together to establish the first overseas police station in the United States on behalf of the Fuzhou branch of the MPS," it added.

Alleged spy said to have helped tacked down Chinese dissident

U.S. Attorney Breon Peace for the Eastern District of New York said that Lu and Chen were "tasked with doing the PRC’s bidding."

This included "helping locate a Chinese dissident living in the United States, and obstructed our investigation by deleting their communications."

Meanwhile, an archived version of the non-profit America Changle Association's website shows that Lu formerly served as its chairman.

The Daily Caller linked to a Chinese-language media report detailing how Meng and Lu were side-by-side at an America Changle Association event in New York City seven years ago.

What's more, the Chinese-language news ICN TV reported in 2016 that Meng presented Le with a framed "proclamation."

This was done as part of a ceremony to mark the 25th anniversary of the American Fujian Association of Commerce and Industry.

Also of interest is the fact that video footage shows Meng with Lu at the America Fujian Association’s 77th anniversary celebration held in 2019.

When asked for a comment, the congresswoman's press secretary offered  a statement which said, "While Congresswoman Meng has likely encountered him at local community events, she has no personal relationship with [Lu Jianwang], and was unaware of any allegations against him until last Monday’s news."
