Democratic congresswoman indicted on felony charges for allegedly attacking ICE agents
A viral video clip emerged last month which appeared to show New Jersey Democratic Rep. LaMonica McIver attacking federal agents.
That footage recently led a federal grand jury in Newark to indict the liberal congresswoman on multiple felony charges.
Incident took place on May 9
According to Breitbart, McIver alleged actions took place as she and other elected officials were outside the Delaney Hall Federal Immigration Facility on May 9.
A Department of Justice Press (DOJ) press release explained that Newark Mayor Ras Baraka attempted to accompany a congressional delegation into a secured area of the facility.
"A federal officer then informed the Mayor that he was not authorized to be in the facility’s secured area, and issued the Mayor multiple warnings that he would be arrested if he did not leave," it noted.
"McIver and other members of the Congressional Delegation overheard this conversation and challenged the officer, protesting the Mayor’s removal," the press release asserted.
McIver accused of attacking two agents
"When officers moved in to arrest the Mayor, McIver and others surrounded the Mayor and prevented the officers from handcuffing him," it continued.
The press release alleged that "McIver slammed her forearm into the body of one law enforcement officer and also reached out and tried to restrain that officer by forcibly grabbing him."
What's more, the Democratic legislator is also said to have "used each of her forearms to forcibly strike a second officer."

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) subsequently posted a video recording of the incident to social media along with a caption that read, "US Congresswoman, LaMonica McIver (wearing a red blazer), storms the gate of Delaney Hall Detention Center ASSAULTING an ICE agent."
McIver could be sentenced to 17 years in prison
The DOJ pointed out that should she be convicted on all counts, McIver could be sentenced to as much as 17 years in federal custody.
Alina Habba serves as U.S. attorney for the District of New Jersey, and she addressed McIver's indictment in a social media post of her own.
"While people are free to express their views for or against particular policies, they must not do so in a manner that endangers law enforcement and the communities those officers serve," the U.S. attorney wrote.
