Democratic Connecticut state representative arrested for impaired driving
Democratic Connecticut state Rep. Aundré Bumgardner raised eyebrows this past weekend when he was arrested for impaired driving.
According to Fox News, Bumgardner's interaction with officers was captured on police body camera footage early on Sunday morning.
Officers described Bumgardner's eyes as being "red and glossy"
A police report stated that Bumgardner was pulled over after he was observed to be driving on a flat tire which was "barely staying on the rim."
The lawmaker reportedly told officers that he had "struck something" on the road while attempting to make his way back from an event with constituents.
Bumgardner's eyes were said to be "red and glossy" while a "strong odor of an alcoholic beverage" allegedly emanated "from his breath as he spoke."
What's more, Bumgardner was described as appearing "very nervous" while also exhibiting "a slight slur in his speech."
Bumgardner: "I take full responsibility for my actions"
Bumgardner addressed his arrest in a statement released on Monday, saying, "Last night, I was cited for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence."

"I take full responsibility for my actions and deeply regret this mistake. I am grateful that no one was harmed and that no accident occurred," the lawmaker stressed.
"I recognize the seriousness of this situation and am committed to taking the necessary steps to ensure it never happens again," he continued.
"To my family, friends, colleagues, and the residents of the 41st District, whom I am honored to serve, I sincerely apologize for my actions and the disappointment I have caused," Bumgardner went on to add.
Meanwhile, Fox News noted how Connecticut House Speaker Matt Ritter put out a statement of his own in which he announced that Bumgardner will be stripped of his leadership and committee positions "until further notice."
"I am disappointed and disheartened after hearing of Rep. Bumgardner’s arrest for driving under the influence," he lamented.
"I have spoken with Aundré, and he understands that he must take full responsibility and work every day to win back the trust of his constituents and colleagues," Ritter explained.
"Aundré is a dedicated and compassionate young man, and it is clear from talking to him that he is owning this very serious mistake," he asserted.
