Democratic group calls for Schumer to resign as leader
Chuck Schumer, America's Senate Minority Leader, recently made the decision to cross the aisle and work with Republicans in an attempt to avoid a government shutdown.
There are countless liberals in this country who see this as the ultimate betrayal, even going so far as to claim that Chuck Schumer should resign or be primaried by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in the near future.
Pass the Torch, a grassroots Democratic group that gained noteriety after calling for former President Joe Biden to leave the 2024 presidential race, is one of the largest groups currently demanding Chuck Schumer to resign as minority leader.
Schumer's actions
Chuck Schumer decided that he didn't want America's government to shut down, and many liberals are FURIOUS at that decision.
"Chuck Schumer is unwilling and unable to meet the moment," Pass the Torch said in a statement on March 14.
"His sole job is to fight MAGA’s fascist takeover of our democracy — instead, he’s directly enabling it. Americans desperately need a real opposition party to stand up to Trump."
Pass the Torch, and other liberals across America feel as though Chuck Schumer should have stuck to his initial statement that he was going to oppose a Republican-backed stopgap funding bill to avoid a government shutdown. Most House Democrats, led by Hakeem Jeffries, opposed the bill.
Donald Trump praised Schumer's decision to cross the aisle, which obviously made Democrats across the country even more angry.
Other liberals also upset
Pass the Torch isn't the only group of liberals who think something needs to be done about Chuck Schumer.
Many liberals politicians in this country were outraged that Chuck Schumer dared to side with Donald Trump, even going so far as to say that AOC should challenge him for his seat, something that AOC has not dismissed.
Instead, it seemed like she said quite the opposite when asked about the situation recently:
"I think there is a deep sense of outrage and betrayal," AOC told CNN recently.
Even though she didn't directly bring up replacing Schumer herself, she did say that Democrats need to reject their party leader's decision, which shouldn't be taken lightly.
"We have time to correct course on this decision. Senate Democrats can vote no. We can correct course, and that is the most important thing in front of us right now," she said.
Liberals in this country are going to need to work together if they want to stop Trump's momentum.
So far, they aren't off to a good start.
