DHS secretary Kristi Noem robbed at DC restaurant on Easter
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was reportedly robbed at a restaurant in Washington, D.C. on Easter Sunday night while eating with her family.
Surveillance video showed that a white man wearing a medical mask took Noem's bag from the floor by her feet at Capitol Burger and left the restaurant.
The thief got away with $3,000 in cash along with Noem’s driver’s license, DHS access badge, and other documents and items that were in the bag.
The Secret Service has an investigation underway to see if Noem's financial items had been used.
Theft confirmed
Noem acknowledged the theft on Monday at the White House Easter Egg Roll, including the fact that it remains unsolved.
A statement from DHS also read, “We can confirm this occurred last night. Her entire family was in town including her children and grandchildren."
Noem said she had the cash on hand to treat her family to dinner, do Easter activities, and buy gifts.
Understandably, Noem didn't mention the theft on her social media pages.
Instead, she posted a family photo and wished followers a blessed holiday.
Let the mocking begin
Her detractors used the situation to mock her, even though the theft was no fault of her own except maybe getting distracted by her family and not expecting such a thing to happen.
Podcast host Brian Allen said on X about the theft, "Yes, the woman in charge of protecting the nation... couldn't protect her purse."
Late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel addressed the theft on Monday night, saying in part, "What could be more embarrassing than our head of Homeland Security getting robbed? It’s unbelievable! And the funniest part is none of this would have ever happened if she hadn’t shot her guard dog!"
It's almost as funny as the transgender person Biden hired who kept stealing people's luggage.
Oh wait, that's an actual crime, unlike Noem, who was a victim of one.
