DOGE denied entry to USADF, Trump responds
The White House of President Donald Trump is furious after members of his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) were recently denied access to the U.S. African Development Foundation (USADF) building.
The incident, according to The Hill, took place on Wednesday.
As we will see, DOGE and the Trump administration responded with U.S. marshals, and now the situation has ended up in the courts.
Trump and the White House are now vowing to hold the "entitled, rogue bureaucrats" accountable. But, before we get to that, we'll catch you up to speed.
Here's what happened:
Members of the Trump administration attempted to gain access to USADF's offices on Wednesday but were denied.
The Hill reported:
Five DOGE workers and Peter Marocco, the deputy acting head of the U.S. Agency for International Aid (USAID) who has overseen Trump’s attempts to gut the agency, tried to enter the USADF’s office in Washington on Wednesday but were “unable to access” it, the agency confirmed to The Hill. They were there for less than an hour, getting to the headquarters around noon local time and left before 1 p.m, USADF said.
It appears that the decision to deny entry was made by the agency's chair, Ward Brehm. He claimed that he "specifically instructed the staff of USADF to adhere to our rules and procedure of not allowing any meetings of this type without my presence."
This all comes after Trump, in February, signed an executive order to eliminate “non-statutory components and functions” of the USADF. It is believed that, now, Trump is trying to have Marocco take over leadership of the agency.
The current individuals running the USADF, however, are refusing to comply.
Trump sent in the marshals
The day after they were denied entry, after determining that they had the legal right to enter, the Trump team returned to the USADF building with U.S. marshals.
It is unclear how this situation played out, but afterward, Brehm filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration. At the time of this writing, no update on the lawsuit has been provided.
The White House is clearly outraged by the situation.
It put out a statement, saying, "entitled, rogue bureaucrats have no authority to defy executive orders by the President of the United States or physically bar his representatives from entering the agencies they run."
This is going to be another situation that is going to have to play out in the courts.
