DOJ and FBI officials panicking as Trump gets ready to enter White House

Officials in the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) appear to be panicking as President-Elect Donald Trump gets ready to enter the White House.

This is according to a new report from NBC News.

It appears that officials in these agencies are concerned that Trump might seek revenge on them.

This comes, of course, after DOJ weaponized the legal system against Trump, bringing multiple prosecutions against him in the years leading up to the 2024 presidential election. It also comes after, among other things, the Russian Collusion Hoax, which was supported by members of the FBI.

Here's what is going on

According to NBC's report, officials in the DOJ and FBI have begun seeking legal assistance in anticipation of "revenge prosecutions" by Trump's incoming administration.

Per the outlet:

Multiple current and former senior Justice Department and FBI officials have begun reaching out to lawyers in anticipation of being criminally investigated by the Trump administration, according to three people with knowledge of their deliberations.

The outlet goes on to report that, after Trump's election victory, "many Justice Department officials and career staffers were already nervous about the possibility that they would be targeted by Trump loyalists, particularly members of Congress."

What moved these officials from a state of anxiety to a state of panic, however, was Trump's nomination of U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) to be the next attorney general of the United States.

"[T]he selection of former Rep. Matt Gaetz . . . to lead the department has sharply increased the sense of alarm, the sources said," the outlet reports.

Will it happen?

One of the big questions, once the Trump administration takes over, is whether Trump actually will seek revenge by bring prosecutions against members of the DOJ and FBI.

The Daily Beast reports:

Throughout his 2024 presidential bid, Trump and his allies consistently railed against the president-elects numerous enemies and criminal investigations, calling them politically motivated and claiming the DOJ and FBI officials involved deserved to be prosecuted.

This, however, does not mean that Trump will actually go ahead and prosecute these individuals.

The reader may remember that, in the leadup to the 2016 presidential election, many Trump allies called for him to "lock up" Hillary Clinton. Trump, upon taking office, though, never did, reasoning that it would be bad for the country.

Instead, Trump's track record suggests that he will be far more concerned with getting America back on track after four years of the Biden-Harris administration.
