For years, many suggested that former first lady Jill Biden committed what amounted to "elder abuse" given the obvious and painful public decline of her husband, former President Joe Biden.

While such an idea was largely written off, the former first lady might now have to answer for it, as according to the Daily Mail, a Trump official recently stated that she could, in fact, face such charges.

Leo Terrell, who works in the Justice Department's civil rights division under President Donald Trump, made the bombshell claim in a recent social media post.

The idea of holding Jill Biden accountable has gained considerable steam in the past few days, given Joe Biden's shocking cancer diagnosis.

What's going on?

Terrell made the post suggesting "criminal charges" and "elder abuse" over the weekend, stirring up plenty of commentary and opinions in agreeance.

Terrell reposted several replies to his post with which he agreed.

"Elder abuse is a form of domestic violence and Dr. Biden has a lot of explaining to do about her part in defrauding the American people and taxpayers," wrote one supporter who Terrell reposted. "I would never wish Joe Biden physical harm despite my personal political views; too bad his own family compromised his wellbeing."

The new discussions came as Joe Biden's prostate cancer diagnosis shocked the country, with many suggesting that it was long known, given the fact that it had already metastasized in his body to his bones.

His decline, both physically and mentally, was on full display in his final years and months in the White House, and many want someone held accountable for essentially trying to cover it up.

Social media reacts

Terrell found many supporters who backed the idea of criminal charges against Jill Biden for allowing her husband to continue to hold office, knowing full well that he wasn't capable.

"What I want to know is how did Dr. Jill Biden miss stage five metastatic cancer or is this yet another coverup???" one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "Imagine if you will, a woman so power hungry and evil that she would submit her husband, suffering w/ dementia to ridicule, jokes, and humiliation."

Only time will tell if the DOJ holds Jill Biden accountable.
