Attorney General Pam Bondi has vowed that the Department of Justice (DOJ) will uphold religious freedom on America's college campuses.

Evidence that Bondi is making good on her pledge came this week when the DOJ charged that George Washington University (GWU) has allowed antisemitic harassment to fester.

DOJ alleges violation of the Civil Rights act

According to Breitbart, that allegation was put forward in a damning press release which the DOJ made public on Tuesday.

"The Civil Rights Division’s investigation was conducted pursuant to Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination, harassment, and abuse based on race or national origin, by recipients of federal financial assistance," it declared.

"The Division finds that GWU took no meaningful action and was instead deliberately indifferent to the complaints it received, the misconduct that occurred, and the harms that were suffered by its Jewish and Israeli students and faculty," the press release continued.

"The Justice Department will seek immediate remediation with GWU for its civil rights violations," it went on to assert.

DOJ will take action "unless resolution of this matter is reached"

Harmeet Dhillon serves as assistant attorney general for the DOJ's Civil Rights Division, and she spoke up in a statement of her own.

"Every student has the right to equal education opportunities without fear of harassment or abuse," Dhillon declared before adding that "no one is above the law."

What's more, the assistant attorney general sent a letter to GWU President Ellen M. Granberg which asserted that her institution "was deliberately indifferent to the hostile educational environment."

Dhillon explained that as a result, the DOJ will proceed with "enforcement of this important federal civil rights law unless resolution of this matter is reached in the near future."

DOJ is also investigating a number of other universities

"The Department therefore offers GWU the opportunity to enter into a voluntary resolution agreement to ensure immediate remediation of these issues and related reforms to prevent the recurrence of discrimination," she noted.

Breitbart observed that GWU is far from being the only university to come under the DOJ's scrutiny since President Donald Trump took office.

It reported in March that the DOJ's Federal Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism was also investigating Columbia University, Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University, New York University, Northwestern University, the University of Minnesota, and the University of Southern California.
