Dolly Parton's brother David dies at 82
The brother of country legend Dolly Parton, David Wilburn Parton, has died. He was 82.
So far, the "9 to 5" singer has not commented on the personal tragedy, which was publicized by her sister Stella Parton.
"My brother David passed away peacefully this morning. It’s never easy to say goodbye to a loved one but he got his angel wings and is now at peace," Stella wrote.
“My brother David was always referred to as sweet David because of his kindness, loyalty and soft spoken demeanor. He was also a US Marine," Stella added.
Tragedy hits Dolly Parton
An obituary said that David Parton was a bridge builder in the Kingsport, Johnson City, and Knoxville areas. He worked for Simpson Construction as a bridge builder superintendent.
David was the second oldest of 12 children born to a poor family in Tennesse. His famous sister, 78-year-old Dolly Parton, is one of the best-selling musical artists of all time.
Her brother died at his home in White Pine, Tennessee, where he led a quiet life away from the spotlight.
“It’s never easy to lose a loved one. My wonderful brother David Parton passed in the early hours of the morning," his sister Stella wrote on Facebook.
"Thank you for all your kind thoughts to my family as we continue to grieve the loss of our much loved and cherished oldest brother David," she wrote in another post.
Predeceased by son
Davis is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kay Parton, daughters Donna and Dena, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
According to his obituary, David was preceded in death by his infant son, Donnie; father and mother, Robert Lee and Avie Lee Owens Parton; and brothers, Larry, Floyd and Randy Parton, among other family members.
With David's death, Dolly Parton has seven living siblings: Willadeene, Coy, Robert Jr., Stella, Cassie, Freida, and Rachel. David is the fourth sibling to pass away.
Dolly's little brother Larry died when he was just an infant. Her brother Floyd died in 2018, and in 2021, she lost her brother Randy to cancer.
“My brother Randy has lost his battle with cancer,” Parton wrote at the time. “The family and I are grieving his loss but we know he is in a better place than we are at this time.”
“We are a family of faith and we believe that he is safe with God and that he is joined by members of the family that have gone on before and have welcomed him with joy and open arms,” she added.
