Many in the mainstream media have taken shots at former President Donald Trump due to his wife's seeming absence from the presidential campaign trail.

Former First Lady Melania Trump has not only chosen to focus her priorities on protecting her son, Barron Trump, from the media attacks, but has also dealt with the loss of her mother, understandably keeping her busy and unable to focus on her husband's march to victory.

However, according to Fox News, President Trump responded to the situation and noted that his wife will soon be joining him on the campaign trail, putting the criticism to rest.

Melania Trump was a key figure during Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and made frequent appearances.

What did he say?

Donald Trump addressed the situation during a recent Fox News townhall with host Laura Ingraham.

The former president noted that his wife doesn't necessarily like the campaign life, but given her ambition and drive to be successful, she likes "results."

"It’s funny, she was a very successful model, very, very successful, and yet she was a private person. She’s going to be out a lot. Not because she likes doing it, but she likes the results," he said during the town hall event. "She wants to see this country really succeed. She loves the country."

"You know, a lot of first ladies would go out — they want to be everywhere. They get angry at their husband because he’s not introducing them," Trump continued.

He added, "If I didn’t introduce Melania, she’d be very happy about it. She’s just a different kind of a person."

Fox News noted:

Her absence, until recently, has been explained by the passing of her mother, Amalija Knavs, earlier this year. But as the campaign season becomes more intense, political commentators have questioned whether she will step back into efforts supporting Trump.

Protecting Barron

Trump went on to explain that Melania is primarily focused on their teenage son, Barron Trump.

"Her life revolves around that boy. It’s so important to her," Trump said. "At the same time, it also revolves around our country and the success of our country. She’s raised a lot of money for charity. She’s a private person."

"And she loves the country," Trump added. "She’s going to be out a lot, but she does it for the good of the country, not for her. She’s somebody with a lot of confidence. She doesn’t need that."

The anti-Trump media will soon be unable to attack the former president on the issue, as Melania will make her own waves on the campaign trail.
