Doug Burgum confirmed as Trump's Interior Secretary

President Donald Trump continued his winning streak this week after several of his high-profile Cabinet and administration picks were confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

According to Breitbart, the latest confirmed member of Trump's Cabinet includes Doug Burgum, who is now officially the president's Interior Secretary.

Unlike some of Trump's other picks, Burgum had a relatively easy path through his entire Senate confirmation process, as he was only opposed by a handful of Democratic senators for no other reason than because Trump selected him for the job.

Burgum briefly appeared as a candidate in the 2024 presidential race as a Republican candidate, but quickly dropped out due to low polling numbers before he ultimately threw his support behind Trump. He was also the governor of North Dakota.

What happened?

One of the primary reasons Trump picked Burgum for the high-level job is his support for Trump's energy policies, which aim to make America energy independent once again and do away with the idea that green energy is taking over.

Burgum, like Trump and most Republicans, believes that we should be utilizing and prioritizing the vast amount of energy resources available right here on American soil, including the abundance of fossil fuels underneath our feet.

“We live in a time of tremendous abundance, and we can access that abundance by prioritizing innovation over regulation," Burgum said during his Senate confirmation hearing.

Breitbart noted:

“Unlike Trump, Burgum has acknowledged the existence of climate change and as governor set ambitious targets of making North Dakota carbon-neutral. However, in his confirmation hearing he also suggested he would fast-track natural gas and coal development on federal lands to power artificial intelligence data centers,” noted the Hill.

Burgum also emphasized the importance of American coal and its relation to national security.

"We are in an energy crisis in our country, and the first place is actually related to electricity,” Burgum said. “Electricity is at the brink; our grid is at a point where it could go completely unstable. We could be just months away from having skyrocketing prices for Americans.”
