Fans of Dutch television were left heartbroken this week after learning that actor Reiky de Valk committed suicide. 

According to the website Sports Keeda, the performer's Instagram account announced on Monday that he had died at the age of 23.

Actor rose to prominence in 2018

"Reiky has chosen to let his light shine on us from above. He is forever with us all. Forever in our hearts. May his soul shine in peace," it stated.

Originally from Amsterdam, De Valk was most widely known for portraying the character Josh on 2021's "Hunter Street."

The performer first rose to prominence five years ago by portraying Kes de Beus on the television program "Skam NL." De Valk also made appearances on "Dertigers," "Hockeyvaders," and "Modern Love Amsterdam."

Subtitling service offers condolences to De Valk's family

News that the actor had passed away was quickly followed by an outpouring of tributes across social media platforms.

A tweet from the English subtitling service wtFock English declared, "We will always be so grateful for the gifts he gave to the skamily and you'll always be our Kes. Our condolences to the family."

Ordinary fans spoke up as well, with one describing De Valk as an admired "emerging artist" who was a source of inspiration.

Fans express grief over De Valk's death

Another said that her "heart is broken by such terrible news," adding, "Skam NL was a safe place for me and I will always carry this show/remake in my heart along with its cast."
