New York City has seen several incidents in which people were prosecuted after they defended themselves or others, a fact which has left many Americans outraged.

Their outrage is likely to grow now that a senior citizen man has been arrested for shooting an alleged armed robber.

Suspected robber pronounced dead a scene

According to Fox News, a 65-year-old man fatally shot a 32-year-old in the early morning hours of Wednesday near Queens Criminal Court in Kew Gardens.

Police say that the older gentleman opened fire on the 32-year-old and hit him several times in the chest after approached while carrying an unidentified object.

EMS personnel pronounced the suspected robber dead shortly after they arrived. Authorities have not released the deceased's name nor that of the shooter.

Wednesday's arrest comes weeks after Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg charged Marine Corps veteran Daniel Penny with manslaughter over the death of Jordan Neely, a homeless man with a long history of violence.

Penny restrained Neely in a subway car last month after he reportedly became belligerent and began making threats toward other passengers.

The New York Post reported that Neely was arrested on multiple occasions, including in November of 2021 when he was accused of punching a 67-year-old woman in the face.

The Post cited charging documents which said the victim sustained a broken nose and fractured orbital bone as well as "bruising, swelling and substantial pain to the back of her head."

What's more, Bragg also made headlines last year when he charged elderly store clerk Jose Alba with murder for fatally stabbing ex-convict Austin Simon.

Charges against store clerk dropped following public outcry

The charge was laid despite security footage showing that Simon rushed behind the counter of Alba's store and began to physically attack him.

Adding to the controversy was Bragg's decision not to lay charges against Simon's girlfriend despite video footage showing her stabbing Alba. Bragg later dropped Alba's charges following significant public outcry.
