The mystery of why Texas Republican Rep. Kay Granger disappeared from Capitol Hill was solved last week after CNN reported that she was living in an independent living facility.

News that the missing lawmaker is experiencing dementia prompted Elon Musk to suggest that elected officials should face cognitive tests.

Eighty-one-year-old Republican is set to leave office next month

Brandon Granger is Rep. Granger's son, and he recently told the Dallas Morning News that his mother is residing at Tradition Senior Living in Fort Worth, Texas.

"It’s been a hard year," Mr. Granger explained. However, he added that there is "nothing wrong with someone wanting to live in a community with other folks their age."

Granger, who was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1996 previously served as chairwoman of the House Appropriations Committee. She is set to leave office next month.

CNN noted that the 81-year-old Republican put out a statement in which she expressed gratitude "for the outpouring of care and concern over the past several days."

Musk says those in authority should have their mental faculties tested

"As many of my family, friends, and colleagues have known, I have been navigating some unforeseen health challenges over the past year," Graner explained.

"However, since early September, my health challenges have progressed making frequent travel to Washington both difficult and unpredictable," she continued.

"During this time, my staff has remained steadfast, continuing to deliver exceptional constituent services, as they have for the past 27 years," the congresswoman stressed.

Meanwhile, CNN reported on Wednesday that Musk took to social media and argued that those in authority should have their mental faculties tested.

Report: White House staff were aware of Biden's mental decline

President Joe Biden's cognitive fitness was a major issue in this year's election, particularly after his disastrous debate against President-elect Donald Trump.

An article published by the Wall Street Journal earlier this month cited interviews with White House staff members who said that Biden's mental decline was obvious early in his presidency.

One unnamed aide recalled speaking with a national security official who explained that a meeting scheduled early in Biden's term had to be put off as he was having trouble functioning.
