Fans of pop music legend Elton John were saddened this week to learn that he has been diagnosed with health problems.

According to Breitbart, the 77-year-old performer made the news public in a post he put up on social media earlier this week.

John has "limited vision in one eye"

"Over the summer, I've been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye," John wrote.

"I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye," he continued.

John went on to express gratitude "for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the past several weeks."

The British recording artist concluded by explaining that he has "been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home" and is "feeling positive about the progress" he has made towards recovering.

Singer underwent knee surgery in January

The BBC noted that John's announcement was greeted by online messages of support from other celebrities, including designer Donatella Versace, who wrote, "Sending you so much love Elton! Feel better soon. Love you."

Veteran tennis player Billie Jean King spoke up as well, saying, "Sending our love and support your way. Feel better soon, friend."

Breitbart pointed out how this is not John's first health struggle in this year, as he was forced to undergo knee replacement surgery in January.

While the operation prevented him from attending the Emmy Awards, he nevertheless managed to win best variety special (live) for "Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium."

John disavowed X in 2022 for allowing "misinformation to flourish"

Interestingly, John opted to publish his recent statement on Instagram rather than X as he disavowed the platform in 2022 after it was acquired by Elon Musk.

"All my life I’ve tried to use music to bring people together. Yet it saddens me to see how misinformation is now being used to divide our world," John wrote.

"I've decided to no longer use Twitter, given their recent change in policy which will allow misinformation to flourish unchecked," he insisted.
