Eric Swalwell says Trump on the verge of being indicted

This week, California Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell said that former President Donald Trump is on his way to being indicted.

According to Breitbart, the congressman made that claim Thursday during an appearance on MSNBC’s "The Last Word."

His remarks came in response to a report that the Department of Justice (DOJ) had asked federal Judge Beryl Howell to hold Trump in contempt of court over his refusal to turn over classified documents.

Swalwell calls Trump "a legal terrorist"

"Whatever your viewers may think about previous investigations into Donald Trump, and the frustration that has come with those, this team is not screwing around," Swalwell asserted.

"I think that that reflects the gravity of what it’s at risk here with more documents being potentially in the hands of Donald Trump or his team," he continued.

"They need those documents, and it also looks like they are moving towards an indictment of Donald Trump," the liberal lawmaker continued, adding, "He wouldn’t take all of these steps unless you are serious."

Swalwell then went on to call the former president "a legal terrorist" who has benefited for decades by delay, delay, delay.

"This is a tactic that he has used, but the walls are closing in, and as you just pointed out, there is really no right answer here for Donald Trump," the congressman insisted.

"His silence is deafening. It is essentially an admission that he still possesses these documents, which gives reason for the DOJ to proceed with this case. We are approaching a legal crescendo for Donald Trump that he has not seen in the years that he’s been in the courts," Swalwell concluded.

GOP pledges to oust Swalwell from House Intelligence Committee

ABC News revealed on Friday that Howell declined the DOJ's request to hold Trump in contempt, a development which was welcomed by Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung.

"The President and his counsel will continue to be transparent and cooperative, even in the face of the highly weaponized and corrupt witch-hunt from the Department of 'Justice,'" Cheung was quoted as saying in a statement.

"If the Department of 'Justice' can go after President Trump, they will surely come after any American who they disagree with," Cheung argued. "President Trump is the only one who stands in the way of the un-American weaponization of law enforcement."

Meanwhile, Swalwell may have problems of his own next year, as incoming House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy has pledged to unseat him from the House Intelligence Committee.

"One thing I said from the very beginning, Eric Swalwell cannot get a security clearance in the public sector," McCarthy told Fox News host Maria Bartrimono last month. "Why would we ever give him a security clearance and the secrets to America? So, I will not allow him to be on Intel."
