Former Fox News host and State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce was nominated by President Donald Trump to be the deputy representative to the United Nations on Monday, the latest former Fox News employee to be recruited for Trump's team.

Trump announced Bruce's nomination on Truth Social, calling her a "great patriot, television personality and bestselling author."

He commended her for doing a "fantastic job" at the State Department and said, "Tammy Bruce will represent our country brilliantly at the United Nations. Congratulations Tammy!"

While the nomination was generally well-received, some criticized the choice because of comments Bruce made on Israel's i24 News three months ago.

"Grateful"

"America is the greatest country on earth, next to Israel," she said at the time. Since then, she has said that her comments were taken out of context.

She is also a former Democrat who has remade her image in the MAGA mold after jumping ship during the tea party era. She was president of the NOW chapter in Los Angeles in th 1990s and is a lesbian.

She has been in the media spotlight prominently since becoming State Department spokesperson, particularly during the Iran-Israel bombings.

She responded to the nomination, saying, "Thank you President Trump! So grateful for POTUS's trust in nominating me as the Deputy Representative of the US at the UN. I've been honored to serve as Spokesperson, and now I'm blessed that in the next few weeks my commitment to advancing America First leadership and values continues on the global stage in this new post. Onward!"

Slow-walking nominations

The U.N. Ambassador spot is filled by Mike Waltz in an acting capacity; he is awaiting Senate approval like dozens of other nominees.

Bruce will join those ranks, which have swelled because Senate Democrats have been slow-walking most of Trump's nominees in any way they can.

It wasn't clear who would replace Bruce at the State Department; the deputy spokesperson is former RNC spokesperson Tommy Pigott.

Bruce had no foreign policy experience before coming to the State Department, which may be a cause for concern when she goes to defend her nomination in the Senate.

Her loyalty to Trump is likely to get her across the finish line, however; he seems to value that above all else.
