Ex-mobster says 'there's just no way' Jeffrey Epstein could have killed himself
It has been nearly six years since finance mogul and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein died while awaiting trial at the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) in New York City.
While the Department of Justice (DOJ) maintains that Epstein committed suicide, one former mafia captain recently said that was "impossible."
Ex-mobster: "There's just no way you are able to commit suicide"
According to the New York Post, that claim was put forward on Tuesday during a NewsNation interview with Michael Franzese, who was previously a member of the Columbo crime family.
Franzese spoke of having been incarcerated at the MCC before explaining that its layout would not have allowed Epstein to committing suicide in the way he is alleged to have.
"There's just no way you are able to commit suicide. There’s just no way," the former organized crime figure was quoted as saying.
"There's no way to hang yourself, there’s nothing from the ceiling, there’s nothing from the bed," Franzese told "Banfield" guest host Brian Entin.
Franzese "just can't buy" that camera failed
What's more Franzese took issue with the DOJ's assertion that the security camera outside of Epstein's cell was malfunctioning when the financier passed away.
"As far as the cameras being off, I haven’t experienced that — I did eight years in prison and I haven’t experienced cameras being broken and a perfect storm of correctional officers not walking those cells," he declared.
"They walk in and they look in on you all the time," he stressed. "As a matter of fact, sometimes it’s embarrassing to go to the toilet because they’re walking past you and looking in the cell constantly."
"I just can’t buy it. I cannot buy it, I’m sorry. And I have no horse in this race other than my experience and the fact that I just couldn’t see it happening," Franzese concluded.
Epstein's brother rejects suicide finding
Franzese isn't alone in rejecting the official finding that Epstein committed suicide, as the sex offender's brother has done so as well.
Fox News noted that 70-year-old Mark Epstein said he laughed with disbelief at an FBI memo which was released earlier this month.
"Every time they say something or do something to try to quash the fact that he was most likely murdered, they put their foot further down their mouths," Mark Epstein told NewsNation.
