Ex-Obama chief of staff admits he participated in gerrmandering
The man who was once ex-President Barack Obama's chief of staff recently admitted to having personally participated in gerrymandering.
Breitbart News reports that Rahm Emanuel did so during a recent appearance on CNN's Inside Politics.
The idea that gerrymandering is taking place in Illinois is really no surprise, but it is somewhat surprising that we have now reached the point at which some on the political left are admitting it.
For those less familiar with Emanuel, he is currently CNN's Senior Political and Global Affairs Commentator. But, he used to be Obama's chief of staff. He also spent time as the U.S. Ambassador to Japan and as the mayor of Chicago, Illinois.
"I have participated in it..."
During Emanuel's CNN appearance, he briefly touched upon the situation in Texas, where Democrat state lawmakers have fled the state in order to block a vote on a redistricting that the Democrats are claiming is anti-Democratic.
At one point, CNN host Dana Bash said, "I should say, as an Illinois boy, we should just set the record that gerrymandering has been — two have played that game."
Emanuel agreed, saying, "100 — look, I have participated in it in my ..."
Here, Bash jumped in to make an even bigger admission, saying, "It’s probably the most gerrymandered state," to which Emanuel again agreed, saying, "Yes. The question is, it was done exactly when the Census data was done, not mid-cycle, not mid-game."
Apparently, there are rules to this whole gerrymandering thing, and so long as you follow these rules, then it is okay.
Double standards galore
First off, it is no surprise to anybody that gerrymandering is taking place in Illinois. One look at the states congressional map will tell you everything that you need to know.
Ex-late-night host Stephen Colbert even confronted Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker about it, just recently, saying that part of the map looks like "the stinger on a scorpion." This is likely part of the reason why Bash and Emanuel made the admission that they did - it is just too obvious to ignore.
Despite this, Democrats are now trying to stop Texas state lawmakers from allegedly gerrymandering their state, and Obama, of all people, is on board.
The former president recently praised Democratic state lawmakers in Texas for fleeing the state, saying:
I am so proud of the @TexasHDC and the work that they’ve done. Their willingness to put themselves on the line to highlight the current assault on our democracy has set an example for what all of us have to do.
As usual, the Democrats have no qualms about double standards.
