Father of JonBenét Ramsey to meet with police chief, DNA experts
It has been nearly three decades since the shocking murder of 6-year-old child beauty contestant JonBenét Ramsey horrified Americans.
While JonBenét's killer has never been found, her father recently confirmed that a meeting with officials is being planned.
John Ramsey to speak with police chief and DNA experts in January
According to Fox News, that information was provided by 80-year-old John Ramsey when he spoke with the network earlier this week.
"We have requested a meeting with [Boulder Police Department] Chief [Stephen] Redfearn in January. He said yup, absolutely, let's get together," Ramsey was quoted as telling Fox News.
"We haven't scheduled the day yet, but we'll get that figured out. That's an important meeting," Ramsey went on to declare.
"We're going to have a representative with us for one of these cutting-edge labs to explain what they can and can't do. Hopefully, he will accept their help," he added.
Ramsey explained that he has been doing media interviews and participated in a Netflix documentary in order "to keep pressure on the police," stressing that he and his family are "not going to go away."
Victim's father calls for DNA evidence to be retested
"DNA is pretty complicated stuff," Ramsey acknowledged before adding, "I have learned that, but that's the reason that needs to be retested."
"That's the one step that we're asking the police to do is engage one of these one or two cutting-edge labs in the world and see what we come up with," he continued.
"And [if] we come up empty-handed, then I'll say, 'Thank you. You tried. That's the best we can do right now with today's technology. Thank you.' But until we do that, we haven't done everything that could be done," Ramsey concluded.
Police chief says his department is "committed to following up on every lead"
For his part, Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn put out a statement last year in which he pointed to the possibility that DNA evidence could still yield answers.
"The killing of JonBenét was an unspeakable crime and this tragedy has never left our hearts," the city police chief declared.
"We are committed to following up on every lead and we are continuing to work with DNA experts and our law enforcement partners around the country until this tragic case is solved," Redfearn pledged.
