Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel just revealed that the individual who recently opened fire on the Dallas, Texas, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency may have been influenced by the recent assassination of Turning Point USA Founder Charlie Kirk. 

Patel made the revelation in a message that he posted to X.

Background

On Wednesday, a man opened fired on the ICE facility in Dallas, Texas. According to Fox News, no officers were injured in the attack, but multiple detainees were, and the gunman killed himself.

The individual behind the attack has since been identified by the FBI as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn.

Fox separately reported:

Jahn fired "indiscriminately" at the ICE building, as well as at a van in the sally port where the victims were shot, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said. The three detainees were in an unmarked transport van when they were shot, before Jahn took his own life around 7 a.m., according to the sources. He was found dead with a rifle on a nearby rooftop, authorities said.

It has further been revealed that the rounds fired by Jahn had "anti-ICE" messaging on them.

In other words, this appears to be yet another politically motivated attack.

The latest

Patel, on Thursday, revealed several more details about the shooting, including that the suspect searched for the "Charlie Kirk Shot Video," suggesting that he may, at least in part, have been influenced by the recent assassination of Kirk.

Patel, on X, wrote:

The perp downloaded a document titled "Dallas County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management" containing a list of DHS facilities. He conducted multiple searches of ballistics and the "Charlie Kirk Shot Video" between 9/23-9/24. Between 8/19-8/24, he searched apps that tracked the presence of ICE agents. One of the handwritten notes recovered read, "Hopefully this will give ICE agents real terror, to think, 'is there a sniper with AP rounds on that roof?" Further accumulated evidence to this point indicates a high degree of pre-attack planning.

Patel said that "the FBI will provide further updates when able."
