According to U.S. Rep. James Comer (R-KY), the informant file that he has been seeking from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) links President Joe Biden to a $5 million bribery scheme.

The New York Post reports that Comer, the chairman of the Hosue Oversight Committee, made the revelation in a letter that he sent to FBI Director Christopher Wray on Wednesday.

Background

This all comes after a whistleblower revealed to U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley's (R-IA) office that the FBI has a document that shows Biden's involvement in a criminal scheme.

The scheme is said to have occurred back when Biden was the vice president. The general allegation is that there was an exchange of money between Biden and a foreign national regarding policy decisions. But, details have been scarce to come by.

Ever since the whistleblower tip, congressional Republicans have been trying to get access to this document. Comer subpoenaed the FBI for the record. But, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has refused to hand it over.

Now, in a new letter that Comer sent to Wray, Comer revealed some new details about the allegation.

Two big, new details

One detail that Comer revealed in the letter is the amount of money involved, which is allegedly $5 million.

Another new detail revealed by Comer is the date of the whistleblower's tip: June 30, 2020.

This date has allowed the Post to make a rather interesting connection.

"A remarkable coincidence"

The Post reports:

In a remarkable coincidence, Ukrainian officials held a press conference in Kyiv on June 13, 2020 — 17 days before the FBI tipoff — where they showed off $5 million in cash allegedly offered as a bribe to end an investigation of natural gas company Burisma’s founder Mykola Zlochevsky.

After noting that Hunter Biden - the son of then-vice president Joe Biden - was a member of Burisma's board from 2014 to 2019, the Post reports that "the cash seized by Ukrainian officials in 2020 was paid in American $100 bills that were put on display — and matches the amount that Joe Biden allegedly received years earlier."

The outlet adds, "Two-and-a-half weeks later, however, the FBI document accusing Joe Biden of bribery was 'created or modified,' according to Comer’s letter."

What now?

Comer has now threatened to hold the FBI in contempt of Congress should Wray not hand over the document in accordance with the subpoena.

Comer and Wray, at the time of this writing, are scheduled to meet at some point during the week of May 29.
