FBI investigating threats against Colorado Supreme Court justices

The FBI announced that it would be pouring resources into investigating threats against Colorado Supreme Court justices.

Following the court's decision to strike former president Donald Trump from the ballot, the court was allegedly flooded with threats against the court's justices.

Vikki Migoya, a spokesperson for the FBI’s Denver field office, issued a statement saying, "The FBI is aware of the situation and working with local law enforcement. We will vigorously pursue investigations of any threat or use of violence committed by someone who uses extremist views to justify their actions regardless of motivation."

The Colorado State Patrol also acknowledged the FBI's investigation but declined to comment on any measures that are being taken to protect the court following the bombshell ruling.

The decision certainly inspired outrage on the part of Trump's supporters but this is a common situation. It's unknown if there are legitimate threats being made or if these threats are just the usual ravings that are being overblown for political reasons.

National uproar

Colorado's Supreme Court created national uproar with their decision to strike Trump from the 2024 ballot in Colorado. The decision was widely blasted as unconstitutional and threatens to create legal chaos.

The court's justices are all appointed by Democrats and some suspect that the decision was undeniably political.

The court ruled that Trump was ineligible to run for president under Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution’s 14th Amendment. Basically, the court claimed that Trump had committed insurrection, a crime he was already acquitted of.

Trump has vowed to appeal the decision to the Supreme Court and Republicans have threatened to remove Joe Biden from the ballot on various charges.

The Colorado Supreme Court essentially opened a massive can of worms that has backfired on Democrats in multiple ways.

Donald Trump has even more evidence to back up his claims of political persecution which has boosted him in the eyes of voters. Furthermore, should Republicans remove Biden from the ballot, that will severely complicate the 2024 election.

Grasping at straws

So what threats does the Colorado Supreme Court face? Well according to media reporting, no actors have been identified but many online commentators have said threatening things in reaction to the decision.

While no one should be making threats online, there is little reason to believe these threats from anonymous commentators mean anything. The FBI seems to be extremely concerned right now but couldn't have cared less when pro-choice protestors were harassing Supreme Court justices at their homes.

Conservative justices that voted to overturn Roe vs. Wade were harassed for weeks and one man was arrested for attempting to assassinate justice Brett Kavanaugh. So it appears that the FBI is grasping at straws and talking about threats in an effort to steer conversation away from the court's objectively terrible decision.
