President Donald Trump regularly pledged to target foreign criminal groups such as the brutal MS-13 gang during last year's campaign.

The evidence suggests that Trump hasn't forgotten that promise, as this week saw FBI Director Kash Patel announce the arrest of a major MS-13 figure.

Salvadoran national deported in 2018

According to the Daily Wire, previously deported illegal migrant Joel Vargas-Escobar was apprehended in New York by federal agents on Tuesday.

The Salvadoran national has been charged with racketeering conspiracy, two counts of murder-in-aid of racketeering, along with multiple gun offenses.

Patel touted the news in a statement, saying, "The arrest of yet another violent and dangerous MS-13 leader is a major win for our FBI agents, law enforcement partners, and safer American streets."

"Our agents and analysts are continuously coordinating across multiple field offices and investigating with our valued partners to keep this work going -- and we will not stop until that work is done," he added.

Victims allegedly tortured, then killed

Attorney General Pam Bondi also celebrated Vargas-Escobar's capture, saying, "The American people are safer following the arrest of yet another MS-13 leader thanks to the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division and Joint Task Force Vulcan."

"This terrorist entered our country illegally and is accused of orchestrating 11 murders — under President Trump’s leadership, we will not rest until this terrorist organization is completely dismantled and its members are behind bars," she declared.

The Daily Wire noted prosecutors' position that Vargas-Escobar personally ordered two murders and was complicit in nine other homicides, with victims being tortured before they were killed.

Vargas-Escobar's arrest came roughly a week after the New York Post reported that fellow MS-13 leader Henry Josue Villatoro Santos was taken into custody.

Raid uncovers multiple firearms, suppressors

The 24-year-old alleged gang member was arrested on March 27 after an FBI-led task force carried out a raid on his mother's home in Virginia's Prince William County.

The Post explained that law enforcement officers successfully deployed a stun grenade after Villatoro initially refused to surrender.

A subsequent search of the premises uncovered multiple firearms along with a stash of ammunition and a pair of suppressors.

Bondi described Villatoro as "one of the top leaders, heading up all MS-13 violent crimes on the East Coast" and accused him of being "responsible for heinous acts, and he should never have been in this country."
