FBI responds to Kristi Noem after she accuses 'corrupt' agency of leaking ICE raid
The FBI is firing back at Kristi Noem after she accused the scandal-plagued agency of leaking sensitive details about President Trump's immigration raids.
The Los Angeles Times reported on a planned "large-scale" raid in the city, prompting the Homeland Security Secretary to blame the Deep State for undermining the operation.
"'The FBI is so corrupt," Noem wrote on social media. "We will work with any and every agency to stop leaks and prosecute these crooked deep state agents to the fullest extent of the law."
Noems blasts FBI
The FBI called Noem's accusation "unfounded" and irresponsible in a rare public statement addressing a Cabinet official.
The sweeping statement asserted there is no evidence "to date" of corruption in the FBI.
"Making unfounded allegations calling F.B.I. agents corrupt is deeply irresponsible and has not been supported by any evidence to date,” the FBI said in a statement.
Noem's accusation comes after years of mounting mistrust of the federal agency, which has played a prominent role in Trump-era politics since its agents spied on the president's first presidential campaign in 2016.
While the FBI denies any role in the ICE leak, current and former FBI employees corroborated Noem's claims to the Washington Times.
Garret O’Boyle, a former FBI agent and whistleblower, said supervisors are "openly and flagrantly opposed” to ICE.
"Lives at risk"
Trump's first administration faced constant subversion from disloyal subordinates and leakers. While the president is running a tighter ship the second time around, there have still been efforts from within to undermine his agenda.
A previous leak in Aurora, Colorado, placed agents' safety at risk, border czar Tom Homan said. The city garnered widespread attention during Trump's re-election campaign as the president highlighted the presence of Venezuelan gang members in local apartments.
Homan pointed to the FBI as the culprit in publicizing the Aurora operation.
“You’re putting officers’ lives at risk,” Homan told Fox News.
“It’s only a matter of time before we walk into a place where there’s going to be a bad guy who doesn’t care. He’s going to be sitting and waiting for the officers to show up and ambush them. This is not a game.”
The leaks add another layer of danger to an already tense situation, which has seen large throngs of anti-Trump protesters - some waving Mexican flags - shut down roads in Los Angeles. A 17-year-old boy was stabbed and left critically injured earlier this month during one of the anti-deportation protests.
President Trump's nominee to lead the FBI, loyal supporter and Deep State critic Kash Patel, is facing a confirmation vote in the coming days.
