FBI reveals the truth about violent crime statistics
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) recently revealed the truth about violent crime in America, namely, that, under the Biden-Harris administration, it is on the rise.
Chances are that you did not need the FBI to figure this one out. But, the surprising part is that, according to Fox News, it has, even though the agency does seem to have a clear anti-Trump, anti-Republican bias.
To understand the full importance of this story, one has to go back to the presidential debate that was held between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump - the two contenders in the 2024 presidential election.
This is the infamous debate that was held on ABC News, the one during which the moderators relentlessly "fact-checked" Trump while allowing Harris to get away with several egregious lies.
Flashback
During the debate, Trump attempted to make the point that, under the leadership of the Biden-Harris administration, violent crime statistics have shot up across the country.
"Crime here is up and through the roof despite their fraudulent statements that they made. Crime in this country is through the roof," Trump said.
The moderators, though, were ready for this one. ABC debate moderator David Muir immediately "fact-checked" Trump.
"President Trump, as you know, the FBI says overall violent crime is actually coming down in this country," Muir said.
This is when Trump shot back, saying:
Excuse me. They were defrauding statements. They didn't include the worst cities. They didn't include the cities with the worst crime. It was a fraud. Just like their number of 818,000 jobs that they said they created turned out to be a fraud.
Trump was right
To the surprise of almost no one, it turns out that Trump - not ABC's moderators - was right about the direction of violent crime under the Biden-Harris administration.
Fox News reports:
A recent FBI revision appears to back Trump. After reporting there was a 2.1% drop in violent crimes in 2022, the FBI now admits there was actually a 4.5% increase. According to crime and data expert John Lott, the new numbers reflect a net increase of 80,029 violent crimes in 2022 over 2021. He found that under the umbrella of violent crime, there were an additional 1,699 murders, 7,780 rapes, 33,459 robberies and 37,091 aggravated assaults that year.
A fair question to ask, at this point, is whether this really matters. After all, many people watched the debate, but it is unlikely that many people know that the FBI has revealed the truth about the situation.
The answer to the question is unclear. Perhaps, it will be decided at the ballot box in a few weeks.
ABC, for its part, has not acknowledged that Muir was dead wrong with his "fact check."
